If asked to describe 2020 in one word, many of us might instinctively respond with something not safe for work. Still, OMD Global Chief Strategy Officer Chrissie Hanson, Creative Theory Co-Founder and CEO Tamon George, and BBDO LA Producer Storm Smith were up for the challenge. See how they summed up a most challenging year in this video.

How would you sum up 2020 in one word?

0:05

Tamon: [laughs]

0:06

Chrissie: In one word?

0:07

Storm: [gives a little laugh]

0:08

Tamon: Well, my

0:10

first thought is s***show, but?obviously I can’t say that.

0:12

Chrissie [gives a look of incredulity]

0:14

Storm: One word is “change.”

0:16

Tamon: The word that I would choose would be “courage.”

0:17

Chrissie: “Testing.”

0:20

Storm: And why did I pick the word “change”?

0:25

Honestly, the world and the people,?including myself, we're not the same

0:29

in the last few months and?not even from a year ago.

0:36

Our voices now are becoming more heard and?louder, and the accountability is higher.

0:40

Chrissie: Testing of yourself, of your resilience,

0:46

of the pressure that you put on one another, and?then showing up and delivering upon your promises.

0:48

Tamon: When you think

0:53

about businesses, both big and small, there?was courageous steps that people had to take

0:59

on all fronts, sacrificing work, laying?people off, making really, really difficult

1:02

decisions. I think it took a lot of courage?from a lot of people to do what was right

1:10

for the health and safety of us as a society,?but then also to do what's right by your family.

1:13

Storm: Oftentimes the stories with

1:18

people with disability, in terms of representation?and inclusiveness, it comes from the lens of

1:25

fully abled and non-disabled people who are?writing the stories about us. And it's time

1:31

for us to reclaim our own stories and, and convey?that in advertising and television and media and

1:40

technology and in various industries, because?the world is continuing to evolve as we know it.

1:42

Chrissie: This has been a year that has tested

1:49

organizations, that has tested processes,?that has tested your individual level of grit.

1:54

And it has been tough and it?will continue to be tough.

1:55

Tamon: It was a year that

2:02

took a lot of courage from, really, everybody?to band together and do what needed to be done.
